Cabot Yerxa
Born in North Dakota on June 11, 1883, Cabot Yerxa left home at the age of 16 and joined the gold rush to Alaska. In 1913, he homesteaded 160 acres in what is now Desert Hot Springs -- about 10 miles north of Palm Springs. He bought a burro that he named Merry Christmas, and began to build his first desert home.
That home is what became known as Cabot's Pueblo, or, as Cabot affectionatly called it, his "castle". Upon the suggestion of the local native people, Cabot dug a well and found hot water located on his property: the same hot water that today has made a world destination out of Desert Hot Springs.
Join us on April 24th as we celebrate Cabot's sense of adventure and his lasting contribution to folk architecture and natural building.
This event is a fundraiser for Cabot's Pueblo Museum. All net proceeds to benefit Cabot's restoral efforts.
